Ensera Ayor

The Iban literature of leka main has been the subject of many studies. This book focuses on a unique but seldom discussed genre of leka main known as ensera or folk epic. Ensera is a tale of heroism extolling the hero and his deeds. Among the famous epics on heroism is the Ensera Ayor celebrating Ayor as an exemplary warrior of the Ibans. Unlike previous studies, this study not only documents the ensera text, but also puts it in the context of Iban folk literature as a whole, including its nature, characteristics and social function. To ensure that it reaches a wider audience, the text is translated into Malay. Thus, this book is regarded as a significant contribution to researchers of folklore.
